Who's Jack Magazine Talk Live and Unsigned

Who’s Jack magazine, London’s fresh, innovative fashion and music magazine, is an official partner of Live and Unsigned 2010. They are partnering the Indie category of the competition. With numerous features and interviews with established acts, sneak previews of under the radar musicians and their own TV channel, This Is Jack TV, they're well versed on the London music scene. So, ahead of the Live and Unsigned Regional Shows in London, we quizzed Laura Hills, Deputy Editor of Who’s Jack Magazine, on all things music related in the capital city!
Laura says; “When Live and Unsigned first approached us to work with them we were excited for a number of reasons, not only because it gives a fantastic platform for talented acts that may otherwise go unheard, but also because it goes back to what music is all about - original material and playing live. That itself is what Who’s Jack is all about, promoting and pushing new and happening talent. We featured Paloma Faith on our front cover two years ago and Ellie Goulding and her producer Starsmith (who recently won the BBC Sound of 2010 award) have been friends of the magazine for some time now, proving that you don’t have to be a well known name to get the attention you deserve.
As a London centric publication and with all the team living within London, we’re in a very fortunate position to be at the centre of some of the most exciting music in the world right now. London is renowned for its amazing music venues. Places such as Koko, Boarderline, The Garage, The Proud Galleries and The Rhythm Factor are all fantastic venues where you’re sure to see bands of all genres perform. London’s also well known for producing some of the greatest talent! Blur, The Libertines, Florence and The Machine, Dizzee Rascal, Adele, The Streets and Jamie T to name just a few musical fish in a massive ocean of performers. But that’s not to say, by any stretch of the imagination, that new talent is exclusive or limited to our fair town. We’re looking forward to seeing acts from all over the country!
To Who’s Jack talent isn’t defined by a recording contract, it’s the ability to write and perform your own songs, capture the attention of the audience and create melodies so catchy they’re stuck in our heads for days and have us googling your Myspace as soon as we’ve heard them. All of those things will be what the judges will be looking out for at the auditions, they’ll be looking for that certain something that sets you apart from everyone else and makes you want to hear more. Sometimes you can’t really define that ‘special something’, but you know it as soon as you see it! And that’s what we’ll be looking out for! We'll be partnering the Indie Category of the competition and looking for that stand out act. We'll be giving them plenty of coverage and can't wait to see some of the acts perform at the festival!
These are just some of the many reasons we’re really excited to be working with Live and Unsigned and can’t wait to check out some of the auditions and live shows. Hopefully we’ll get to meet some of our future cover stars!”
