Portsmouth Guildhall, located in the heart of the city centre, is recognised as one of the South Coasts best live venues. Originally opened in 1890, it was in 1926 that Portsmouth gained the status of a city and the town hall was renamed as the Guildhall. During the World War the venue was ruined by incendiary bombs and fires and was left a shell of its former self. In 1959 the Queen reopened the Guildhall, and with a capacity of 2,000, it has drawn in huge crowds ever since. It has seen some of the UK’s most talented artists perform on stage including Biffy Clyro, Newton Faulkner, Motorhead, McFly and Prodigy.
